I recently had the pleasure of attending the Denver Fly Fishing Show
Which is one of the most significant events for Fly Fishers nationwide. As I entered the show, I was overwhelmed by the diverse Fly Fishing culture in every corner. From Fly Tying demonstrations to Fly Casting classes and everything in between, it has always been clear that Fly Fishers is a passionate group of people who have come together to share their knowledge and love of the sport with each other.

My Experiences at The Denver Fly Fishing Show:
Fly Fishers have found a home at the Fly Fishing show and it was just as thrilling for me to explore all of the different aspects of Fly Fishing. From Fly Tying demonstrations to getting hands-on experience with some of the latest gear on the market, I felt welcomed by everyone that I encountered. This was El Gallo Fly Fishing Lodges’ first exhibit, and although I felt like an outsider, most people that I met were very warm and welcoming. It is, after all just a bunch of people that love the sport, and lifestyle of fly fishing. In addition to learning about Fly Tying, I also had the opportunity to explore some of the newest Fly Fishing gear that was showcased in an interactive format which allowed me to get a better understanding of how things work before making a purchase, this is very beneficial, especially for the new products. Fly Fishers who were more experienced also had the chance to participate in Fly Casting classes which were taught by some of the top Fly Fishing instructors in the country.
New products that I found interesting:
There were several, but the things that stood out the most were:
Dave Scaddon’s new line of inflatable boats. Light, affordable, and functional. I will have one of these boats!
Bajio Sunglasses: New line of biodegradable sunglass frames, anything not plastic is a good thing IMO.
Seigler Fly Reels: Built to take the ass-whoopin’ that roosterfish and marlin will distribute to a fly reel.
Monic Fly Lines: Polyurethane, not PVC. Lasts longer, and is better for the environment.
Mystic Fly Rods: Small company, and good people, make great fly rods at an affordable price.
My Best in Show: There was a company named “Fly Fishing Costa Rica” with a jungle tarpon program I will need to experience. They also have a trout, and an offshore program as well, but Jungle Tarpon has been screaming my name for a decade now. The thought of a 200-pound dark-colored poon leaping violently out of the flooded and stained waters of the Costa Rican jungle makes my blood boil!
Attending the Fly Fishing show was an amazing experience and I took away a lot from it, but there are three main things that stood out for me. Firstly, Fly Tying is not only a practical skill to have when Fly Fishing, but it’s also an art form. Secondly, attending Trade Shows like this can be extremely beneficial for Fly Fishers as you learn about new products and techniques directly from experts in the field. Lastly, Fly Fishing is so much more than just a sport – it’s a community of Fly Fishers who share a common passion for Fly Fishing and the unique lifestyle that comes with it.
Fly Fishing is an incredible sport and attending trade shows like the Denver Fly Fishing Show in 2023 was a great way to experience Fly Fishing culture firsthand. Through my time at the show, I learned more about Fly Tying, had the chance to explore some of the newest Fly Fishing gear on the market, and even participated in a Fly Casting class taught by one of the top instructors in the country. Attending trade shows like this can be incredibly beneficial for Fly Fishers as they learn from experts while getting hands-on experience with new products. All in all, it was an unforgettable experience and I can’t wait to attend more Fly Fishing shows in the future!
